SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY-

The West Nile virus has killed a woman in her 60s in San Joaquin County.

Health officials said Friday that it’s the year’s first West Nile-related death in the county.

In 2013, San Joaquin County saw eight human cases and one death.

The virus is typically spread from animals to humans through mosquito bites. Risk of serious illness is said to be low, with people over 50 years old being the most vulnerable.
