Polar Bears

13 Mar

Polar bears are the largest land carnivores in the world and are marine mammals that spend their time on Arctic sea ice. Their fur is white and is thicker than any other bears. Its fur covers its feet for warmth and traction on ice. Polar bears also keep warmth by the 10cm of blubber under their skin. Polar bears eat ringed seals and bearded seal. They are also known to eat walrus, beluga whale, and bowhead whale. There are between 20,000-25,000 polar bears in the world. The habitats they live in are on the edges of ice where currents and winds come. This is where they can find the greatest number of seals. Males grow 8-9 feet nose to tail; females 6-7 feet. Adult males 550-1,320 lbs; females 200-700 lbs. Their lifespan is 20-25 years. An individual polar bear may travel thousands of miles per year to find food. Most polar bears are found in Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Norway.
