Robert Root is all smiles as he is brought down the trail, after surviving 3 days, 2 nights in rugged Placer County.

Placer County deputies tell FOX40 a search crew found a person Tuesday morning, and that person identified themselves as Root. He was found about two miles from the command area.

Deputies are now trying to figure out how to get this person out of the rugged area where they were found, weather conditions are making helicopter travel difficult, if not impossible.

After becoming separated from his running group, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies started a search for Root.

They returned Monday, as wet weather and colder temperatures threatened the area. After not locating Root for another day, search crews tackled the now snow-covered foothills Tuesday morning.
