With a steady lead-in from Hollywood Game Night, Last Comic Standing kicked off the summer schedule for NBC more or less in line with its last showing four years ago. The two-hour episode averaged a 1.7 rating with adults 18-49 — just three-tenths of a point down from the 2010 premiere. It helped drive NBC to a nightly win in the key demo.
STORY: How NBC Finished the Season at No. 1 — Without an Asterisk
All but the series finale of Bad Teacher (1.1 adults) was an encore on CBS, though that was still enough to give the network second-place status with adults 18-49 and top all others among total viewers.
Aside from NBC, Fox was the only network to air all originals on the first night of summer TV. Hell’s Kitchen (1.5 adults) opened the night off two-tenths of a point from last week, and the premiere of drama Gang Related, originally ordered to series over a year ago, opened with a 0.9 rating among adults 18-49. It’s soft, for sure, but it did managed to hold its audience through the entire hour.
Over on ABC, Black Box (0.8 adults) was the lone new outing — down three-tenths of a point from last week and hitting a new series low.
