ROSEMONT –
A missing autistic boy was found at a construction site miles away from his home, after a police search that lasted 6 hours.
“He’s got a sunburn, dirt all over him. He’s limping, he’s been walking for a long time,” said Maria Huerta, the boy’s mother.
8 year old Eduardo “Tito” Avalos walked away from his home at Justin Way in Rosemont, Friday around noon.
Huerta told FOX40 she felt ill and took a nap at 11:30 A.M. Friday. She said when she woke up at noon, her son was gone.
“This guy’s a Houdini. He’ll open any lock. It’s unbelievable,” said Huerta.
It’s not the first time her son has wandered away from home. Huerta says she’s put locks on all of her doors and windows, as well as hiding ladders so that he can’t climb over fences. This time, she said, he found the keys.
“He was found at a construction site. There was a conveyor belt that was not running today, had it been running it would have been horrible accident because he was under it,” said Huerta.
Huerta said she was frightened because her son does not fear traffic, and could have wandered into it at anytime. He was found near Jackson Road and Mayhew, an area with fast moving traffic and no sidewalks.
Huerta concluded, “We’re just happy that he’s back. We want to get him home and give him a nice long bath.”
