When Sharknado 2: The Second One star Ian Ziering stopped by Live! With Kelly and Michael on Tuesday, he didn’t hold back on the opportunities to poke fun at his own film.

“It’s going to bite, just like the first one,” he joked, also adding of the sequel’s overly simplified name, “Yeah, they had a tough time coming up with that!”
Sharknado 2 centers on a freak weather system that turns its deadly fury on New York City, unleashing a “sharknado” on the city’s population and its most iconic sites.
Like the first film, the Syfy sequel took 18 days to shoot. “It was different because we shot here in Manhattan. That was challenging because we shot beginning of March, and there wasn’t a day over 32 degrees. There was one day we were shooting out at Citi Field where it was 4 degrees, and people don’t generally go outside in 4 degrees! … Your face freezes! I had to talk, I had to get everyone out of the stadium — ‘Let’s go, let’s go!’ — but my face started to freeze; I couldn’t articulate! I had to stand in front of a heater to warm up my cheeks before I could speak, because literally, I would get there and I couldn’t move my lips.”
The film reunites Ziering and Tara Reid, who are joined by Vivica A. Fox, Mark McGrath, Judah Friedlander, Kelly Osbourne, Andy Dick, Judd Hirsch, Robert Klein, Kurt Angle, Benjy Bronk and Billy Ray Cyrus. Others making cameos include Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Biz Markie, Kelly Oxford, Sandra “Pepa” Denton and Perez Hilton — as well as Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. Ziering revealed to the co-hosts, “I’m happy to tell you, you do not get cut out!”

Ziering also makes his return to the Rio in Las Vegas as a celebrity guest host at Chippendales until July 20, after trying the emcee gig last summer. The hosts showed a photo of Ziering with former 90210 co-stars Jenny Garth and Shannen Doherty at the show.
“Yeah, they didn’t want to miss out on that! They didn’t really see that much when we were working,” said Ziering. “We’re all still friends so it’s been great. But Chippendales is such a joy. I have so much fun with those guys! It’s very classy show, very well produced Las Vegas male revue — and it’s flirty, it’s not dirty. My mom was never ashamed of what I was doing — she would enjoy it, and people have so much fun.”
The sequel premieres on Wednesday, July 30, at 9 p.m. on Syfy.
