ELK GROVE-

Six people were injured at Bubbles Car Wash and Detail in Elk Grove, after what witnesses said an SUV plowed into employees.

Elk Grove Police said they received a call about a vehicle versus a pedestrian accident at the business at around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

“We just heard a car accelerate non stop, like as if it was floored,” Garo Doranian, owner of Bubbles Car Wash and Detail said.

Witnesses told police that a white 2012 Ford Expedition suddenly plowed through cars and employees. The man behind the wheel was a male car wash attendant, who was pulling into the vacuuming station.

“He kept saying that the breaks were not working, that the accelerator pedal is all the way down,” Doranian said about his employee.

According to police, the car was moving uncontrollably from one end of the vacuuming station, hitting two parked cars and five employees, traveled through a grassy divider in the parking lot, hit a pole and a neighboring business’ wall, until slamming into a tree, which brought it to a complete stop.

In the end, six employees were injured. Three of them were taken to Kaiser hospital. We are told one of them suffered a severe leg injury, after he was struck while vacuuming the interior of one of the parked cars.

Elk Grove Police is not charging the employee behind the wheel until they figure out if the crash was intentional or caused by a SUV’s mechanical failure.

“Why the acceleration took place and the inability to control that acceleration, that’s the question,” Police Lt. Tim Albright said.

Police are reviewing security footage provided by Doranian to pinpoint the cause.

Bubbles Car Wash and Detail was closed after the accident on Friday. They will reopen on Saturday.
