SACRAMENTO-

Flames from a “burn barrel” spread to a fence, then a home Tuesday morning in the Arden-Arcade area.

A neighbor used a garden hose to try to slow the spread of flames, Metro Fire said. Ultimately, firefighters were able to contain the damage to about 30 percent of the home.

Damage to the Hancock Drive home was estimated to be about $150,000.

Burn barrels are considered open-burning, and illegal inside Sacramento County.
