SACRAMENTO –

Sacramento Police Department officers arrested a man suspected of shooting a woman in downtown Sacramento Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired near the 400 block of 12th Streets just before 3 p.m. Once there, the officers found a woman who had been shot in the leg. The victim, in her 20s, was taken to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.

An investigation revealed the shooting happened when two groups got into an altercation. Someone in one of the groups fired a shot as he fled the scene.

A raid follow-up found Demetrius Martin, 20, near Delta Street and Scott Drive. Martin, believed to be the suspect who fired the gun, was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) and violation of his probation.

This is an ongoing investigation as officers are trying to identify other people who were at the scene when the shot was fired.

Ruben Dominguez filed this report.
