SACRAMENTO-

Momentum is building to boycott Black Friday sales in order to hit corporate America where it hurts over the deadly police shooting of Ferguson, Mo. teen Michael Brown.

Demonstrations are being planned all across the country, including Sacramento.

“A lot of these corporations are in charge of funding the police and other functions of the State,” activist Jamier Sale said. “And we’re trying to send a message that we want to take away from that. We want to show we don’t agree with the system, the same system that said it was O.K. for Mike Brown to die in the street.”

Organizers are calling it the No Justice, No Profit campaign which starts Thanksgiving Day and is expected to continue through the weekend. Sale plans to lead the Sacramento demonstration at Arden Fair Mall each day beginning at 3 p.m.

“Making it known we don’t like killer cops on our streets,” Sale said. “Making it known that we’ll be out here until justice is served. We might even march.”

Their hope for retailers is, Black Friday weekend will be anything but business as usual.

“All the community wants is our voices to be heard,” Sale said. “But continually what we have is the police trying to stifle that voice.  Bringing violence into the equation, and when we’re pushed, we can only push back.”
