SACRAMENTO-

There’s shocking new information about the suspect in a deadly beating in Sacramento’s Meadowview area.

One man who knows 28-year-old suspect Matthew Drake says he never should have had the opportunity to kill.

He has no trouble believing Drake is responsible for this crime because of the violent threats he’s received from him himself.

But he says the police are responsible too.

“Matthew should have been arrested for an assault on another young lady and if they had arrested him Friday, this would have never happened,” he said.

This man wanted his face and voice concealed as he shared his story exclusively with FOX40.

He says he’s close to the first of two women Matthew Drake attacked in five days.

He claims the first was Drake’s girlfriend of five months.

Drake was arrested Wednesday for what police say happened to the second – a murder at a group home on Sacramento’s Matson Drive where some were learning to cope with varying mental illnesses.

The man who spoke out to FOX40 had secured his own restraining order against Drake for threats against himself and his children.

He claims Drake had things to say to the woman he attacked Friday.

“He said to her that the first one to report it, the other one’s going to jail,” he said.

And that’s what happened – the girlfriend was arrested.

She has a criminal past herself, but not as extensive as Drake.

He’s on parole for carrying a concealed weapon, jail escape and battery on a police officer, among other crimes.

“He’s a parolee and you know they should have been on top of that. Somebody should have been on top of that,” said the man close to Drake’s girlfriend.

“Fallon would be alive today if they had arrested him.”

Police aren’t confirming that name or releasing any other details about last night’s victim at this time.

Drake’s girlfriend, who claims she was beaten by him Friday and was released from jail last night, fears he was coming after her Wednesday.

Drake was arrested outside of her window.

The two were supposed to be married over the weekend.
