‘Grace of Monaco,’ Olivier Dahan (Opening Film)
Cannes Festival director Thierry Fremaux has called it the "perfect Cannes film," combining art house cred in director Dahan (of La vie en Rose fame) with Hollywood A-list power from star Nicole Kidman as an Oscar winner playing another Oscar winner, Grace Kelly. It even has a suitably Cote d'Azur setting. And in the coup de Grace (sorry), it comes with a built-in scandal as director Dahan and distributor Harvey Weinstein have been engaged in a very public battle over the final cut of the film, with TWC, which has U.S. rights, threatening to drop Grace before its Cannes premiere.
