The Leftovers launched on HBO Sunday night, drawing 1.8 million viewers to its inaugural telecast.
The pay cable net’s latest drama, based on the Tom Perrotta novel and created for TV by Damon Lindelof, lost 42 percent of its True Blood lead-in. The second episode of the vampire drama’s final season brought 3.1 million viewers at 9 p.m.

It’s a solid enough launch for an HBO show. The network typically sees dramas gain after premieres, though it does fall shy of the most recent drama launch. True Detective opened to a four-year premiere record in January to 2.3 million viewers.
Over the night, The Leftovers scored 2.1 million viewers with the addition of a second telecast. HBO put the first episode up for free online on Monday, streaming it in full for nonsubscribers.
