On Wednesday, 12 heroes in San Joaquin County were honored at the Red Cross’s annual Hero Breakfast. Some are considered heroes for their split-second decision making in a moment of crisis, others, for an idea and hard work to make their community better.

“I don’t know what it feels like to be a hero, but they are calling me a hero, so I am one,” said Donnie Navidad who helped catch a woman after she plunged three stories from the Oakland Coliseum after an Oakland Raiders game last November.

Abbigail Hickman was the youngest recipient.

The 10-year-old from Tracy started a bowling fundraiser to help raise money for her local animal shelter after noticing the cats at the shelter didn’t have any toys to play with. After two “Pins For Pets” events, she has raised $17,000.

Jerron Jordan was named the hero of the year for helping create the “WE CAN” movement by painting 200 trash cans in Stockton to get people to throw their trash away and not litter.

Categories for the annual event included Good Samaritans, Law Enforcement, Medical, Military and Professional.
