Reza Aslan, an author who has become a regular presence on cable networks debating religious topics, is in discussions with CNN for a series, a network spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Talks for the series had been earlier reported by Mediaite and Politico. Aslan hinted at the news in a tweet (since deleted) that was directed at CNN’s Jake Tapper on Friday. Aslan also confirmed to THR that there had been discussions but couldn’t elaborate “until the deal is inked.”
Aslan is a scholar who authored the Jesus biography, Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, among other titles.
A controversial interview during a Fox News webcast shortly after the book hit shelves last July propelled Aslan to a series of other media appearances, including with Piers Morgan on CNN.
