New York Comic-Con just got a lot bigger.
Well, technically, it got a lot longer — six days longer, in fact, with organizers ReedPOP announcing Wednesday a new event called New York Super Week, which will run Oct. 3-12, including the already announced New York Comic-Con on Oct. 9-12.
EARLIER: ReedPOP’s ‘Special Edition: NYC’ Will Be Comic-Con, but Smaller
According to ReedPOP, Super Week is “an immersive and inclusive experience that aims to bring the energy, passion and color of the entire universe of popular culture to every corner of all five boroughs of New York City” that will include events in locations such as the Hammerstein Ballroom, Bell House and Galapagos Art Space, as well as live recordings of NPR’s Ask Me Another and Slate.com’s Hang Up and Listen podcasts.
The week of events will launch with a special episode of StarTalk Live! hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson at the Hammerstein Ballroom, and culminate in this year’s New York Comic-Con, held as ever in the Javits Convention Center.
In a statement accompanying the news, Lance Fensterman, global senior vp of ReedPOP, said that he sees Super Week following “the spirit of popular events like South by Southwest, but … with a distinct New York sensibility and flair and fully rooted in the world of popular culture.”
The event is the second extension to NYCC that ReedPOP has announced this year. The first, “Special Edition NYC,” is a second show with an “indie bent to it” that premieres this weekend in Javits Center North.
