MODESTO-

A suspect burglarized a Modesto home early Tuesday morning, and according to police, they found the cat burglar with the help of forensic evidence.

According to the Modesto Police Department, the man broke into a home while the residents were asleep after 3 a.m.

Police investigated the burglary on Del Vista Avenue almost a mile north of Modesto Jr College. A man told police he and his wife were sleeping when he heard a noise in their bedroom.

The man says he reached toward the noise and touched the arm of the suspect.

The victim turned on a light and saw a man running out of the room toward his backyard. After the suspect ran away, the man found two large bags of his belongings and a pair of shoes the alleged burglar left behind.

At around 10 a.m., investigators found McClure at a motel on N. 8th Street and took him into custody.

With the help of forensic evidence left at the burglarized home, detectives arrested Steven McClure, 22, for burglary and probation violation.
