YUBA CITY-

Steven Spielberg visited a Yuba City brewery while working on a movie this week at Beale Air Force Base.

Sutter Buttes Brewery owner Joe Federico says Dreamworks called saying they had a high profile customer coming in Tuesday night.

Starstruck customers snapped photos and posted them to social media.

Federico says he and his staff tried to give the Hollywood director space and treat him like any other customer.

“We didn’t bother him. It would’ve been really nice to meet him obviously and get a picture with him but it’s more important for him to have a good time and apparently he did,” Federico said.

FOX40 learned Spielberg was at Beale Air Force Base directing an upcoming Cold War spy movie.

According to IMDB, it stars Tom Hanks as James Donovan, a lawyer who negotiated the release of a U-2 pilot during the Cold War.

Yuba City supervisor elect Dan Flores happened to be at the brewery Tuesday night. He didn’t even realize Spielberg had walked in.

“It’s great to have somebody like that visit,” Flores said.

The visit means a lot to others in the small town.

“For him to be here in Yuba City, Marysville. It’s just wonderful,” said Karen Engelhardt.

If you’re wondering what Spielberg ate in Yuba City: we’re told he had a beer, some shepherds pie and shared some pizza, made by the owner himself.

The brewery owner says he reached out to Spielberg inviting him to come back and visit Yuba City again.

The movie shot at Beale Air Force Base comes out some time next year.
