MEXICO CITY, Mexico—

A California marine is battling for his freedom in Mexico City.

Sargent Andrew Tahmooressi drove over the Mexican border with 3 firearms in his truck soon found himself in a prison for over 3 months after believing he would be brought home for due process. Tahmooressi also reached out to a US Ambassador who is doing everything that he can to get the man in his own country to face trial.

While the justice system is moving slowly, Tahmooressi is alone with post traumatic stress disorder.

Tahmooressi described the arrest in an interview with CNN. Tahmooressi said the translator provided to him at the border made communication even more confusing. He said, “After I had got off the phone with 911 and I felt like there was no one there to help me, I even told them, I said, ‘You can take my guns, take my truck and take all my possessions, just let me go back to America.’ And they shook their head no in frustration.”

According to CNN, after Tahmooressi’s hearing on July 7th he was able to spend 20 minutes with his mother, and both of them remain hopeful he will be able to come home.
