Editor Skip MacDonald earned his first Emmy for the series finale of Breaking Bad.
“This is the perfect way to end the run of the show,” he exclaimed on stage at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys.
MacDonald had been nominated three times previously for the series. Earlier this year, the finale earned MacDonald an American Cinema Editors Eddie Award, marking a rare three-peat in that category, as he also won the Eddie for Breaking Bad in 2013 and 2012.
“It’s a great way to end a series that was spectacular and won the hearts of audiences,” said MacDonald, speaking backstage. Asked about collecting both the Eddie and Emmy for the series finale, MacDonald — whose father was also an editor — said, “ACE is my peers, this is the Academy — they are both pretty amazing.”
This year, Breaking Bad had actually earned three Emmy nominations in editing. Kelley Dixon — who won the Emmy for the series in 2013 — had a pair of nominations this year, one with co-editor Chris McCaleb.
MacDonald was also nominated for an Emmy this year for his work on Fargo.
