“It’s been three weeks today actually. And to know that he’s finally in custody, I know my mom is happy right now,” said Quatisha Austin, Williams’ daughter.

That reaction  – all because Mike Williams, the man they first suspected of killing their mother, is now behind bars.

Their satisfaction follows three weeks of utter sadness that began when police say Mike Williams stabbed his estranged wife in the throat near Sacramento’s Meadowview Road and 24th streets.

Her bleeding body was left in a driveway and she died on the way to the hospital.

The day before she was killed, Tanganyika told her son David that she was going to divorce her husband of just 11-months because he’d become verbally and physically abusive.

“How could you? How could you do that? He’s a monster. He’s a monster for what he did,” said Alomia Watts, about the man she believes murdered her sister.

Williams’ booking photo from his Tuesday arrest is just his latest.

He was released in 2005 after serving 13 years in an Oklahoma prison for shooting with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon in the highest degree.

He shot his then mother-in-law in the leg, while trying to attack his then estranged wife.

With a phoned in tip leading to Williams’ morning arrest near Darla Way and Hemingway Drive, Tanganyika’s children can focus on good memories.

“Nobody ever laughed the way my mom laughed before.  So…that’s the thing i’m trying to remember  – her laughing and having a good time,” said Austin.

And for the son who happens to share a last name with his mother’s accused killer, but is not related to him, he has one question.

“Why?  That’s my main thing. Why? That’s it,” David Williams said.
