Titan Comics has announced plans for “Doctor Who Comics Day,” with events including signings, giveaways and contests planned in the U.S. and U.K. (as well as online) to tie in with the release of the first issues of the publisher’s Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor and Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor series.
In addition to a panel and signing at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (where, for once, there won’t be an official panel for the show itself) featuring Tenth Doctor creators Nick Abadzis and Elena Casagrande, as well as cover artist for the line Alice X.Zhang, July 26 will see a flurry of activity around the new line of comic book spin-offs from the long-running BBC science-fiction series.

Abadzis, Casagrande and Zhang (along with editor Andrew James) will be appearing at Comickaze in San Diego for a signing event after their panel, while Eleventh Doctor writers Rob Williams and Al Ewing will be signing at the Forbidden Planet Bristol Megastore in the U.K. that same day, before hosting an online chat on Titan’s Facebook page. Eleventh Doctor artist Simon Fraser will also be signing issues at the Union Square Barnes & Noble in New York City.
Additionally, Titan is running a number of online contests to win signed copies of the first issues, as well as Comic-Con-exclusive merchandise, inviting fans to participate in “instant cosplay” through social media, enter into a prize draw by signing up for an email newsletter and, most interestingly, create cosplay outfits based on the new, comic-only, companions for each series with examples or outfits available as downloadable inspiration.
Participating comic stores will also have a free 32-page sample issue, featuring previews of upcoming Titan releases including the October-launching Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor, available on the day.
More information on the various events is available here; “Doctor Who Comics Day” takes place on July 26, days after the July 23 release of Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor and Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor. The eighth season of the BBC television series will debut August 23.
