Showtime’s Shameless is bringing in a new love interest for Emmy Rossum‘s Fiona.
Dermot Mulroney has been tapped to join the dramedy for a season-long arc, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
STORY ‘Shameless’ Boss on the Surprising Finale: Fans Demanded More
Mulroney (Crisis, My Best Friend’s Wedding) will play ex-bad boy and recovering addict Sean Pierce, Fiona’s new manager at Patsy’s Pies. As their relationship turns flirtatious and their tension grows, will they be able to overcome their weakness for each other?
Mulroney joins former series regular Justin Chatwin on the season-five call sheet. Chatwin’s Jimmy (aka Steve) made a surprising return in the season-four finale as a con man now going by the name of Jack. Fiona’s ex-boyfriend was presumed dead after the season-three finale, but he was seen with a character played by Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse), driving by the Gallagher household in the closing moments of the episode.

For Mulroney, the casting marks a reunion with Shameless showrunner John Wells. He most recently appeared alongside Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts in Wells’ adaptation of Tracy Letts‘ August: Osage County. His other TV credits include Enlightened and New Girl. Mulroney currently is in production on Insidious: Chapter 3. He’s repped by WME and Jackoway Tyerman.
Shameless, which recently garnered three Emmy nominations in the comedy category after a move from competing as a drama, returns for its fifth season in 2015.
