Paul Singh describes what his family has been through in the last three days as a nightmare.

His wife, Misty Holt-Singh, was killed Wednesday after she was taken hostage by three alleged gang members and was caught in the crossfire of a massive gun battle between those men and Stockton Police.

“I wake up, I’m hoping that it’s a dream, that my mom’s gonna be there, but she’s not, and it sucks. It’s hard,” their son, Paul Jr., said Friday.

Misty’s family chose to focus on the kind of person she was when they spoke to reporters. She was described as selfless.

“She was the most caring, loving mother and wife. She would never do for her. It was always for us,”  Paul Singh said.

Misty’s sister, Dawn Holt, was also on hand.

“She was a very loving mother, sister, daughter and aunt, cousin. and a friend. She was one of my best friends,” she said.

Misty and Paul’s 12-year-old daughter, Mia, was in the car outside the bank when Misty was taken. It was the last time she saw her mom.

Friday, she shared happier times.

“When we’d be in the car and go somewhere, and she’s always chew ice all the time. All the time,” Mia said.

Even in immense grief, Dawn Holt took the time to offer condolences to the families of two of the suspects who died.

“Even though my sister was the victim of a terrible crime, there are other people out there that have also lost someone,” she said. “We do need to give that family, those families, respect because they’ve lost someone they love too.”
