After two teasers, VH1 has released the official full-length trailer for its Drumline sequel.
Drumline: A New Beat, which picks up years after the 2002 feature film starring Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana, centers on Brooklyn native Danielle Raymond (Alexandra Shipp, next playing Aaliyah for Lifetime), who defies her parents in order to attend Atlanta A&T so she can re-energize their once-prominent drumline. But in order to achieve her goal of becoming the first female section leader of the drumline, Dani will have to confront her feelings for bandmate Jayven (Jordan Calloway) and face down crosstown rival Southern State.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively premieres the two-minute trailer for the TV movie. There’s the requisite blowout college parties, romance, hard-nosed coaches and intense rivalries. And for fans of the original Drumline, there’s a treat near the end of the trailer, with Cannon and Leonard Roberts reprising their roles as Devon and Sean, respectively, showing that they’ve still got what it takes 12 years on.
