This year’s premiere week victor, NBC, followed up last Monday’s strong showing with another big night. The Voice, averaging a 3.9 rating among adults 18-49 over two hours, held 100 percent of last week’s premiere audience — albeit one that was down 24 percent from the comparable live-plus-same-day showing in fall 2013.
The Blacklist, easily topping 10 p.m. with a 2.8 rating in the key demo, still took one of the bigger drop-offs from last week’s slew of returns. The show was down six-tenths of a point, though the first round of live-plus-3 ratings prove that it still has a lot of power with time-shifters.
Two series’ performances that are being observed by many are the second episodes of new dramas Scorpion (CBS) and Gotham (Fox). The pair matched in the key demo last week, Scorpion doing so with a hefty lead-in from The Big Bang Theory, but Gotham rose the most with three days of DVR. They both held up considerably well in week two. Gotham (2.8 adults) dropped a respectable four-tenths of a point, while Scorpion had more reason to celebrate by falling only two-tenths (3.0 adults) — and doing so with a much smaller lead-in from a Big Bang Theory repeat.
As for The Big Bang Theory, the CBS drama clocked a 4.7 rating among adults 18-49 in same-day results. That’s down seven-tenths of a point from last week’s back-to-back premieres, though clearly still enough to top everything else on the night. NCIS: LA moved into its new slot with a 1.9 in the demo. That’s obviously a hit (35 percent) from its old Tuesday roost, a showing typical of CBS’ troubled Monday hour, but the network projects seven-day DVR growth of 64 percent.
Sleepy Hollow dipped more after last week’s premiere, averaging a 1.7 rating with adults under 50. (The series added 50 percent of its premiere demo showing in the first round of DVR.)
ABC had Monday Night Football preemptions in two markets, so its scores for Dancing With the Stars (1.9 adults) and Castle are tentative. Still, Castle returned with a 2.4 rating in the key demo and 11.2 million viewers. If that holds, it will make the ABC drama one of the very few returning Big Four shows to come back improved over last year.
The CW, prepping for premieres later in the week, aired the iHeart Radio Music Festival to a 0.3 in the demo.
