Melissa Rivers is considering litigation against Yorkville Endoscopy and possibly the New York Department of Health and Human Services, TMZ reports, in an attempt to find out what went wrong during her mother's throat surgery last month — though supposedly a minor procedure, complications led to cardiac arrest and, a week later, Joan's death.

Official reports have since found Yorkville Endoscopy "deficient" in the care it provided; Melissa has reportedly pressed for more specific information on whether this affected her mother's surgery, but has been "shut down." Her lawyers have instructed her that the best way to get answers is via a lawsuit (though really, this is always the sort of thing lawyers say — it's how they get paid), because then Yorkville Endoscopy's staffers will be "forced" to answer questions and even, where necessary, give a deposition. TMZ's source says Melissa believes "her only recourse is court."
