LOOMIS-

Placer County issued a poor air quality advisory Saturday, because of smoke coming in from the King Fire.  The county urged people to avoid being outdoors for long periods of time until the air quality improves.

Saturday afternoon most parks in Loomis were empty.  FOX40 spoke with one of the few people who decided to brave the ashy air to exercise outdoors.

“Yeah, you can see the particles.  Any time you see the particles it’s bad.  I realize that it’s probably not the smartest idea to come out and work out,” Said Pat Walsh, who came to Loomis park to play Frisbee with his friend.

FOX40 also spoke with a family passing through Loomis, as they prepare to relocate to Placer County.  They said the air quality is making them think twice.  “Me and my son have asthma and seeing all the particulate in the air was definitely concerning,” said Jen Levy.

About 9 miles north of Loomis, in Auburn, the air quality was even worse.  The smell of smoke was stronger, and it was difficult to see in the horizon towards Placerville.

Some tourists visiting Auburn told FOX40 they were upset about the smoky air because it got in the way of their weekend plans.  “The air feels really heavy and bad.  Unfortunately we’re up here for a wedding and it spoiled the whole thing, so I’m not a happy camper,” said David Salma.

Poor air quality is expected to continue in Placer County through the weekend, as winds continue to blow smoke in from the King Fire.
