POLLOCK PINES-

The Pollock Pines Elementary School District was advised to remain closed Wednesday, despite an earlier announcement that it would reopen.

Schools in the district were closed because of the King Fire.

“While the initial recommendation and advice to the Pollock Pines School District was to reopen for school tomorrow, based on the current changing fire behavior that has happened this afternoon, both the Office of Emergency Services and the King Fire Incident Command have now strongly recommended that the schools in Pollock Pines not reopen tomorrow, Wednesday, September 17. The situation will be reevaluated tomorrow afternoon,” El Dorado County Sergeant Jim Beyers wrote.

Beyers is also the director of the county’s Emergency Operations Center.

There was no damage to any schools in the district.

By Tuesday morning, the fire had spread to 11,570 acres and was only five percent contained.

It’s unknown when classes will resume.
