AUBURN-

Flowers, candles, notes and balloons sit outside the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, to honor Deputy Michael Davis Jr., who was killed on the job Friday afternoon.

The suspected gunman, Marcelo Marquez was taken into custody after hiding inside a home on Belmont Drive in Auburn for several hours.

FOX40 returned to that home Saturday. Crime scene tape was still up. For neighbors, that served as a reminder of the tense moments there  one day earlier.

“My kids heard a bunch of gunshots they thought it was firecrackers,” said neighbor, Mary Ann Collins.

Collins lives one block away from the home on Belmont Drive where Marcello Marquez was caught, after two deputies were shot and killed in two different counties in our area.

She says no one in this community expected a heavily armed suspect to lead authorities to Auburn

“Not in Auburn, this feels like something like a terrorist, like someone gone crazy. We keep our doors open here quite a lot so now are going to have to think twice about that,” said Collins.

Saturday night, Placer High School held it’s football games, which were postponed yesterday after the school went on lockdown.

“Everyone I’ve talked to today has been personally been affected either themselves or some part of their family,” said Placer County High School wrestling coach, Don Packheiser.

Packheiser says the school is trying to move forward, but many are trying to heal as they grieve the loss of one of their officers.
