The Sing-Off may be returning to NBC next month, but a cappella master and four-time judge Ben Folds won’t.
For its fifth cycle — airing as a two-hour special on Dec. 17, instead of a two-week holiday run or as a full season — the singing group competition series has booked Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy as a judge. Earlier this week, Stump just wrapped a gig as a guest mentor to Adam Levine‘s team on Mark Burnett’s other singing show, The Voice.

Stump joins returning judges Jewel and Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman, as Folds is currently on an international tour. Nick Lachey is once again set as host. Season-three champions Pentatonix will perform, and season-four winners Home Free will perform with Lachey and the judges.
The special, which taped in front of a studio audience on Monday in Hollywood, features six competing groups: Timothy’s Gift, Melodores, The Exchange, Traces, San Fran 6 and A. Squared.
The Sing-Off is produced by United Artists Media Group with Outlaw Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television. Burnett, Deb Newmyer, Sam Weisman and James Sunderland are executive producers.
