The San Francisco Giants are playing the Kansas City Royals in the 2014 World Series. Ever wonder why the Royals are called the Royals?

In case you were wondering what the San Francisco Giants are named for, the team changed their name to the (then) New York Giants in 1885. The team manager, reacting to a big win over Philadelphia, used the word to describe the team, and it stuck.
