This Sunday, Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge will mark its 20th anniversary.

Founded in 1994 as the 505th National Wildlife Refuge, Stone Lakes is an integral part of the Pacific Flyway that supports a rich mosaic of habitats including grasslands, seasonal wetlands, vernal pools and oak woodlands. Some of the birds that migrate through Stone Lakes come from as far away as the Artic tundra.

There will be a number of presentations and tours offered between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The celebration is being sponsored by the Friends of Stone Lakes and is free to the public. The events will be held at the Blue Heron Trail near the refuge's headquarters on Hood-Franklin Road just west of I-5.

More information about Stone Lakes is available here.
