SACRAMENTO –

With temperatures peaking above 100 degrees on Sunday and Monday in the Sacramento region, air conditioning repair technicians are already having a very busy week.

“Just since Friday, we’ve booked over six hundred diagnostic repair visits for our technicians,” said Lauren Edvalson of Bell Brothers Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning.

Bell Brothers technician, Nick Cardona, said preventing a system failure is sometimes as simple as buying a fresh air filter, something many people neglect.

Paramedics have also been busy this week, responding to heat-related medical emergencies.

“Different signs and symptoms of those can range from cramps to nausea, vomiting, dizziness, confusion, excessive sweating, and to the most extreme…red hot dry skin which would be classified more as a heat stroke which is a true emergency,” explained Sacramento Metro firefighter-paramedic Michael McDaniel.

For people who work outdoors in the heat, McDaniels recommends drinking more than 64 ounces of water in a day.  He also suggests drinking one sports drink like Gatorade for every three standard bottles of water to maintain healthy electrolyte levels.

McDaniels and his colleagues at Metro Fire plan ahead to play it safe in the triple digit heat.

“We check the forecast regularly and know, when these days are coming, we start to pre-hydrate the night before,” McDaniels said.  “So when we do have these emergencies, we’re able to respond without having any complications ourselves.”
