“Everybody’s gone out of their mind,” explains a voiceover in the new trailer for next year’s Mad Max: Fury Road. “You’re not the only one, Max.”
To its credit, the trailer is also gleefully out of its mind, eschewing the traditional Inception-inspired stabs of sound for classical music soundtracking visually arresting scenes of carnage, destruction and an apocalyptic design sense that owes little to contemporary genre fashions — everything looks grimy, over-the-top and utterly fascinating. If nothing else, expect this to be the most visually spectacular movie of the summer season.
Starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, Max Max: Fury Road is directed by original Mad Max creator George Miller. It’s scheduled for release May 15, 2015.
