ABC Family is not moving forward with Twisted.
The Disney-owned cable network has canceled the mystery drama after one season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Twisted focused on 16-year-old Danny Desai (Avan Jogia), who was charged with killing his aunt when he was younger and shunned when he returned to his hometown years later.
The hourlong series was never a ratings performer for ABC Family, debuting to 1.2 million viewers in March 2013 before finishing its 19-episode rookie run in April 2014 with roughly 800,000 viewers in the post-Pretty Little Liars slot.
Twisted, created by Adam Milch, also starred Maddie Hasson, Kylie Bunbury, Denise Richards, Ashton Moio, Kimberly Quinn and Sam Robards. Executive producers are John Ziffren, David Babcock, Milch, Gavin Polone, Charles Pratt Jr. and Nathan Folks.
News of the cancellation comes more than one week after Jogia landed the titular role in Spike TV’s Tut miniseries opposite Ben Kingsley.
Earlier on Wednesday, ABC Family renewed Switched at Birth for a fourth season and in June renewed Pretty Little Liars for two more. The network’s scripted slate includes Chasing Life, The Fosters, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy, Young & Hungry and Mystery Girls, with several pilots — including Recovery Road, Stitchers and Unstrung — in contention for series pickups.
