DAVIS-

UC Davis Physicians left their health instruments in the office, opting for picket signs outside of the Student Health and Wellness Center on campus Tuesday.

About 10 doctors joined about another 150 UC doctors in a one-day strike, unhappy about what their union is calling an unfair labor practice.

Stuart Bussy, the Union President of the American Physicians and Dentists tells FOX40 that UC leaders are not disclosing what he referred to as million in discretionary funds during the two sides contract negotiations.

The union and UC have been negotiated a union contract for a couple of years, but the lack of transparency according to the union was enough to create the strike.

“We have a large divide between the staff we have and the needs of the students, especially mental health,” said Dr. Sean Kennedy, who has been a UC doctor for the past 20 years on the campus of UC Davis.

While UC Davis itself has no part in the negotiations, a spokesperson for the school says the union did give them plenty of warning about the strike.

“We asked some students who had appointments to reschedule because of the staffing shortage, but we are going on as normal and no services will be affected,” said Andy Fell with UC Davis.
