USA Network is sounding the alarm bell for Sirens.
The cable network has renewed the comedy from executive producers Denis Leary and Bob Fisher for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The comedy, from Fox Television Studios, is based on the British series and follows three Chicago EMTs (Michael Mosley, Kevin Daniels and Kevin Bigley). The series wrapped its run on May 1 and ranks as basic cable’s No. 1 new comedy of the year among total viewers, averaging 1.62 million total viewers and 870,000 viewers among adults 25-54.
“Sirens resonated with a broad fan base, and we are excited to grow this new audience further, as season two promises a lot more laughs and irreverent humor,” USA Network president Chris McCumber said. “We’re pleased to continue our partnership with Denis Leary and Bob Fisher, whose unique brand of witty, off-kilter and laugh-out-loud writing is brought to life by the immensely talented cast.”
Sirens marked USA’s return to original scripted comedy. The NBCUniversal-owned cable network is currently airing its second original, Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham‘s Playing House, and has Benched starring Eliza Coupe due next, to go along with syndicated repeats of Emmy-darling Modern Family. A decision on Playing House has not yet been made.
At USA, Sirens joins a roster of originals that includes Covert Affairs, Graceland, Royal Pains, Suits, White Collar, Rush, Satisfaction, Complications and mini Dig, among others.
Sirens hails from Apostle in conjunction with Daybreak Pictures; Leary and Jim Serpico (Rescue Me) exec-produce via Apostle alongside Fisher; and Hal Vogel, David Aukin and David Leach are also on board as EPs.
