ROCKLIN –

It’s been a long week for Katie Lynn the kitten.  The cat has been stuck in a Rocklin storm drain since last Friday, when she jumped into the gutter when running away from a dog. She managed to get wedged in a pipe, 12 feet down.

Every day since, her owner Barbara Moreno has come out to the storm drain to give Katie Lynn comfort.

“Every morning I was afraid I wouldn’t hear her,” Moreno said.

Barbara, her family and neighbors say they’ve all called the City of Rocklin, the Rocklin Fire Department and even private companies dozens of times for help.

Everyone who responded said they didn’t have the right equipment.

But the fire department did offer one solution.

“When a neighbor called they said well, hopefully she doesn’t eat…so she’ll get smaller and will be able to get out,” said Moreno.

Friday morning, neighbors called the city again…and FOX40.

“I think that’s what really got things going,” said Moreno.

The city sent out a traffic control lighting technician who wrapped a towel around the end of a long cord, to finally push the cat out.

“I can sleep for the first time in a week. I’ve been so worried about her,” said Moreno.

The city said persistence helped.

“Sometimes it unfortunately it does take residents to keep calling and people trying different things and I’m glad they did,” said Rocklin PIO Karen Garner.

For Barbara, Katie Lynn is more than a cat, she’s a memory of a loved one.  The cat was rescued by her daughter who died a year and a half ago from a sudden heart attack.

“My daughter loved her. I felt like I was letting my daughter down because I couldn’t get her out,” said Moreno.
