Pro basketball player Baron Davis is getting into TV.
Fox has made a script commitment to a half-hour single-camera comedy loosely based on the life of the former Los Angeles Clippers/Golden State Warriors star from New Girl‘s Jake Johnson, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The semi-autobiographical comedy, to be written by Courtney Lilly (The Cleveland Show, My Boys), centers on a kid from South Central who receives a scholarship to attend a prestigious suburban school and has to find a balance between two very different worlds.
Davis, a two-time NBA all-star, will serve as an executive producer on the project along with Lilly, Kate Gordon and 20th Television-based shingle The Walcott Company’s Max Winkler, Johnson and Mary Lee.
Johnson is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and Jackoway Tyerman. Lilly is repped by UTA and Shuman Company. Winkler is repped by CAA, Management 360 and Jackoway Tyerman.
Last development season, NBA all-star Dwyane Wade sold a semi-autobiographical comedy to Fox based on his best-selling book, A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball. This year, semi-autobiographical stories continue to be a trend: NBC recently made a script commitment to a half-hour comedy loosely based on stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco‘s life.
