In an usual move, the New York Times has endorsed Democratic challenger Tim Wu for Lieutenant Governor while not endorsing the other half of the ticket, Zephyr Teachout, for governor.
The Times said Wu “offers a fresh perspective and a new voice to counter Albany’s entrenched players.”
The Times wrote:
As lieutenant governor, he wants to speak out on complicated issues that are too often ignored in Albany like immigrant rights and broadband access needed by more than a million New Yorkers. Those would be worthy pursuits, but he will also have to learn quickly how to navigate Albany’s difficult politics to make his views heard.
Interestingly, just days earlier, Wu was quoted in Newsday about the possibility of running on a split ticket in the general election with Andrew Cuomo.
“I anticipate it will be a challenging relationship, but I am prepared to stand my ground,” Wu said. He said he is prepared to take on the Governorship should Cuomo make a successful run for president in 2016.
