The Davis Phoenix Coalition is holding “A Chat with the Chief: Addressing Hate in Davis” on Monday, March 9th with the Davis Police Department addressing hate crimes, hate incidents, and discrimination based upon identity. This is one of the coalition’s quarterly “Chats with the Chief” which are to provide the police department and the community the opportunity to build relationships and provide safer unified neighborhoods.
The event will begin with the screening of “Waking in Oak Creek” a brief documentary on the shooting at a Sikh temple in a Milwaukee suburb in 2012. Following, there will be a police presentation on the importance of open communication with all members of the Davis Community.
There will be an opportunity to hold facilitated discussions in break out sessions with members of the Muslim, Sikh, and Jewish communities. The night’s program will end with a candlelight vigil to mark any incidents of hate in our community over the past year.
