While one Elk Grove city council candidate can claim the support of the hometown party club, another of the same party is benefiting from a county-wide endorsement.

Such is the case for the two District 4 candidates of the same party, Elk Grove Democrats Nancy Chaires and Steve Ly.

In a mailer to Elk Grove Democratic voters, the Democratic Party of Sacramento County sent a list of county-wide endorsed candidates. For Elk Grove voters, that includes Chaires, Elk Grove Unified School District Trustee candidate James Letoa and Elk Grove Water Board candidate Davies Ononiwu.

This particular mailer was paid for by the state and county party organizations.

Under California's new electoral system, the mailer also highlights the often conflicting endorsements now facing politicians in the same party for the general election. While a recent mailer sent by Ly touts his endorsement by Dickinson, this mailer shows Dickinson and Chaires both being endorsed by the county party.

Interestingly, the mailer did not list a preference in another high profile race featuring two Democratic candidates, California Ninth Assembly District rivals Jim Cooper and Darrell Fong. While Ly has not received an endorsement from either of these candidates, Chaires and Cooper have mutually endorsed each other's candidacy.
