[Warning: This story contains spoilers from episode 408, “The Last Supper,” of ABC’s Scandal.]
Oh Huck, what have you done?
During Thursday’s Scandal, Guillermo Diaz‘s beleaguered Gladiator made one of his worst decisions yet when, in a bid to bond with his estranged son, he brought Javi (Jordan Carreras) along to a stakeout. Worse: His son — who knew that Huck was a super spy of sorts — saw his father kill Kubiak (Kevin Fry) after making an attempt on his life.

“That’s the last thing Huck wanted to have happen. What was he thinking bringing his son on a stakeout?!” Diaz told The Hollywood Reporter during a recent set visit. “He knows what kind of life he lives and the things he does. It’s horrific. It’s the last thing he thought would happen.”
The move came after Huck used video games to connect with Javi. After Javi’s mystery gaming partner fails to show up and meet him at an arcade, the young (and smart!) Gladiator-in-training shows up at OPA and reveals that he knew Huck was his father. (For as much security as OPA has access to, you’d think a pre-teen wouldn’t be able to get in on his own!)

“I don’t know how Huck is going to come back from that — or how Javi will be able to look at his dad again knowing that,” Diaz says of exposing Javi first-hand to his often violent lifestyle. “But at the same time, Javi is excited that his dad is a secret spy and does all these cool things. So I think while Javi will be upset about it for a while, I don’t think it’s going to keep them apart forever and the door is closed on that.”
While Diaz isn’t sure that Huck has what it takes to be a “good” father, he believes the character will “do anything” to get both Javi and estranged wife Kim (Jasika Nicole) back.

“The thought of losing them completely again is probably frightening for him,” he says. “I think he really would try anything to have his son in his life and be able to be in Kim’s life. More than anything, Huck wants to be a father to Javi and be in his life, but I don’t know if he knows how. I think he’s willing to go through the process and learn the things he needs to do and the things he needs to possibly change in his life to be able to be in his kid’s life.”
Do you think Huck can come back from this? Hit the comments with your thoughts. Scandal airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
