CBS has been ordered to pay the family of a security guard killed on the set of NCIS $10.4 million.
Julio Villamariona, 52, was killed in February 2011, when the driver of a van transporting NCIS crewmembers lost control of the vehicle after having a medical emergency. The driver struck Villamariona, who was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead.

Villamariona’s widow and three grown children brought the lawsuit against CBS.
“I think the jury’s verdict spoke loudly as to the tremendous loss the family suffered,” Brian Panish, the family’s lawyer, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I was amazed CBS continued to fight this through trial when they knew they were in the wrong the whole time.”
According to TMZ, which first reported news of the verdict, CBS had admitted it should have known about the driver’s medical condition, so at issue was how much in damages the family would receive.
CBS declined to comment.
