SACRAMENTO-

A stack of signed papers and a $100 permit fee mean the now champion Sac Republic FC will get to celebrate their fairytale season with their fans in great style.

A stunning goal by Octavio Guzman helped clinch the Republic’s win against the Islanders Saturday, making them the USL pro champions for 2014.

Mayor Kevin Johnson starting talking and tweeting about a parade befitting such a feat right away, but pulling something like that together in just a few days – not easy.

With minutes to spare before the city’s special events office closed Wednesday afternoon, paperwork that had to be filed today was submitted by the team for a Friday parade.

Despite all the excitement around town, it couldn’t have been scheduled earlier because the team was out of town.

Festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Capitol Mall with a march from 4th to 10th streets right at noon.

The party will wind up on the west steps of the Capitol with speeches from team members and the mayor.

Now the pressure is on for the  party to match the team’s amazing season.

“I think the only pressure is we haven’t had many occasions to do this in the city of Sacramento. The Sac Monarchs were the last to really have that championship celebration, so to do something on this scale we realized it was a little extra pressure on us to kind of set the bar, and here we are,”  said Erika Bjork, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the Sac Republic.

City of Vain, creators of the Republic’s unofficial anthem, will be featured during Friday’s celebration and since this is happening over the lunch hour food trucks will be part of the party as well.

To some the timeframe may seem odd time for such event, but the team has been reaching out to its fans on this and this is what the Republic FC-faithful recommended.

Hundreds of young fans will be playing in their own soccer games on Saturday and TBD Fest is taking over the West Sacramento waterfront that day, so Saturday really wasn’t an option.

Five thousand fans turned out for the Sac Republic’s playoff-rally.

With a championship in hand, there’s no telling how many soccer- lovers will show up to salute the team they love.
