SACRAMENTO-

A man was arrested Tuesday night after Sheriff’s deputies say he attacked his elderly roommate with a cleaver, seemingly unprovoked.

Deputies responded to a home on Mira Del Rio Drive after reports of a knife attack. Colby Levitz, 23, was being held by neighbors when deputies showed up.

Detectives later learned that Levitz had allegedly used a cleaver.

Both Levitz and the 70-year-old victim were taken to the hospital. The elderly man was said to have several lacerations and a “mutilated” ear.

Investigators say the motive behind the attack is unknown.

Levitz was booked into Sacramento County Jail on charges of aggravated mayhem, attempted homicide and outstanding warrants.
