Adam Rodriguez is going from working in a crime lab to a cartel member.
The CSI: Miami alum has nabbed the lead role in ABC’s drug cartel drama pilot Runner, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the Turkish series Son, the drama revolves around Lauren Marks (Paula Patton), who believes she is leading a perfect life, which is ripped apart when, in search of the truth, she must follow a trail of lies that takes her into the world of cartels and the illegal gun trade between the U.S. and Mexico.

Rodriguez will star as Troy, a ?threatening cartel member with ties to Lauren and her family and who may be the only person capable of helping her find her missing husband. After meeting Lauren in Mexico City, Troy hints at much larger forces at play, warning Lauren of the danger she’s now in.
Rodriguez most recently starred on CBS’ summer drama Reckless and next has the Magic Mike sequel set for July 1. His credits include About Last Night, I Can Do Bad All By Myself and Ugly Betty. He’s currently recurring on NBC’s The Night Shift. He’s repped by UTA and A Management.
Originally developed by Fox last season under former network topper Kevin Reilly‘s no-pilots process, Michael Cooney (Identity) will pen the script for 20th Century Fox Television/ABC Studios and exec produce alongside Peter Horton, Ian Sander and Kim Moses; Jon Cowan is set as showrunner, with Michael Offer on board to direct the pilot.
