Soups and Stews in Grass Valley and Nevada City restaurants

GRASS VALLEY’S NOTABLE residents include retired actor Clint Walker, best known for his cowboy role as “Cheyenne Bodie” in the TV series Cheyenne. We visited with Cliff earlier this year at Grass Valley’s Gold Rush Days and, among other topics, talked about the local restaurant scene.

Clint confirmed what we’d heard: He’s a fan of the homemade chile at Tofanelli’s Gold Country Bistro. Here’s the low-down on Tofanelli’s chile, as well as some other favorite soups and stews from our region:

Chile
Made from scratch and simmered “low and slow” with house-ground beef, beans, stewed tomatoes, fresh onions, garlic and other ingredients.

Pumpkin Soup
A smooth creamy pumpkin soup, with hints of ginger, is home to caramelized onions and apples, topped with toasted pumpkin seeds. Wheat-free, vegan and delectable. This soup brings home all the comforts of fall.
