Farmers Market second season at the Rood Center in Nevada City starts June 3

The Nevada County Certified Growers’ Market will be returning Tuesday afternoons to the Eric Rood Administrative Center in Nevada City beginning June 3, 2014, from 2-5:30 p.m.

NCCGM is Nevada County’s original Certified Market, bringing growers and the community together since 1980 and is also the operator of the Saturday Market at the Historic North Star House and the Thursday Penn Valley Market. NCCGM will provide a diversity of produce throughout the growing season and will bring in supplemental products as well.

The Rood Center location provides easy access, level terrain and accessible parking for all residents so that they may easily stop by and purchase their fresh produce. A key goal of the Market is to increase access to and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for all residents of Nevada County, with special attention given to outreach to the lower income population.

The Market will be used to help CalFresh customers learn how to use their Electronic Benefit (EBT) cards at this and other local certified farmers markets to help obtain fresh and healthy food choices for their families.

Besides providing accessible and healthy fresh produce to the community, the Market also contributes to a thriving local agricultural economy by helping fund farms and direct agricultural product sales, in turn, providing a win-win partnership equaling more fresh and healthy food on our families’ tables and income to help ensure the sustainability of local farms.
